Observations

Sept. 4, 2010, am

  • 90% clear, 2/5 transparency, 2/5 seeing

  • ED80 mounted to jerry-rigged LX10 fork mount with wedge

  • backyard, Ottawa, Canada

  • terminator ~ 41° W

Based on the CDS forecast, I planned to get up at 4am and get images of crescent moon.  When I got up, it was just clearing so I went ahead and setup.  I got some reasonably good images before the sun started to come up.  Wife thinks I'm crazy.

Nov. 2, 2010, am

  • 100% clear, 3/5 transparency, 2/5 seeing

  • ED80 & LX10 mounted on Orion Atlas EQ-G (hand paddle)

  • backyard, Ottawa, Canada

  • terminator ~ 40° W

Forecast was good so I setup everything after supper, with the plan to get up at around 5am to view the moon before sunrise.  I found it difficult to get a nice clear image in the camera tonight due to the low light level for this moon phase.  I had the camera exposure all the up to 1/8sec ~ 1/4sec when normally I use around 1/30sec.  The resulting images are blurred a bit by the atmosphere and tracking error, plus then are noisier than other images I’ve been able to capture in the past.  It was otherwise a lovely evening.
