Observations

Sept. 14, 2010, pm

  • 80% to 0% clear, 2/5 transparency, 2/5 seeing

  • ED80 mounted to jerry-rigged LX10 fork mount with wedge

  • backyard, Ottawa, Canada

  • terminator ~ 8° E

This session started out with mostly clear with the odd passing cloud, but soon worsened to mostly cloudy.  I had to pack it in before getting good quality shots.  What I ended up with isn't too bad considering the conditions.

ED80 - 106kb ED80 + 2x Barlow (mosaic of 4 frames) - 427kb

Nov. 12, 2010, pm

  • 100% clear, 4/5 transparency, 4/5 seeing

  • ED80 & LX10 mounted on Orion Atlas EQ-G (hand paddle)

  • backyard, Ottawa, Canada

  • terminator ~ 11° E

Again I quickly setup the mount and scopes after I got home from work and recorded images before supper.  The conditions were very good this evening, but with the moon low in the sky the seeing suffered.  I played with the exposure time a bit so see if I can get a sharper image.  The two ED80 images with no Barlow illustrate what I mean; one has a exposure of 1/15th sec and has less noise but is blurry, the other has a 1/30th sec exposure and is sharper but noisier.
